Design Philosophy

Caren Rideau

I believe a great design has magic, transforming the objects of desire into a reflection of the soul.

My journey in interior design began after completing the Interior Architecture program at Arizona State University. After 23 years in the business, combined with my travels through the United States, Europe and South America, I consider my imprints in design to be solid and independent of others. Whether working on a kitchen, a bathroom or a full interior, I meet my designs as an open space for something new, while listening to the voice of my client. In simple words, Design is an expression and not about imitating a style.

When not designing in my Pacific Palisades studio, you will find me in the beautiful vineyards of Santa Ynez, where I spend weekends with my fiancé winemaker. I have planted Albarino, an original Spanish grape varietal, and intend to launch my own wine label in 2012.

I feel very fortunate to have found my love for the arts in kitchen design and wine making and exude both crafts into my lifestyle and projects. I love to cook and I enjoy drinking wine, collectively the two find their way into one expression-the heart of the home is in the kitchen. I maintain an open soul to the traditions of all art and design, while recognizing an open window to the transformation of something new.
